If you are a nuclear plant
professional interested in expanding your knowledge and understanding of the
regulatory oversight process, both as it exists today and the direction it’s
heading, this course is for you. Course material is based on “real life” events
and regulatory insights drawn from the files of the LIS, NIIS, and TRENDS
staffs. Join us for this popular seminar and a chance to interact with industry
professionals from all over the country.
In this in-depth course, attendees learn the
detailed processes, programs, and policies of the NRC, along with recent
interpretations and compliance issues. Active participation is encouraged.
Training includes the use of publicly available databases, such as ADAMS.
Specific industry examples are provided to help
attendees understand processes such as 50.59 evaluations, commitment management,
tech spec compliance and amendment, exemption and relief requests, and
enforcement discretion. Course material is based on real life events and
regulatory insights drawn from the files of the LIS, NIIS, and TRENDS staff.

Seminar
Overview
Day One: The LPD Seminar begins with an
explanation of the evolving regulatory climate. Lectures on the NRC Organization prepare the beginner for more in-depth topics. A detailed
discussion of Licensing Documents continues after lunch. Also discussed
will be operability/degraded conditions. The day is concluded a
demonstration of the Scientech website.
Day Two: A discussion of Reporting
Requirements kicks off the second day, followed by instruction on the Reactor
Oversight Process (ROP). This session includes discussions on performance
indicators, baseline inspection and the Significance Determination Screening
Process (SDP).
Day Three: The day begins with an interactive session in which each attendee works through example findings to determine its significance per the
NRC Inspection Manual guidelines and form for SDP. A review of licensing processes that maintain the operating license (UFSAR updating, safety reviews, exemptions, Notices of Enforcement Discretions [NOEDs] and managing Licensing Action Requests),
is also included.
Day Four: The day begins with Fatigue
Regulatory Issues and concludes with
a discussion topics of current interest.
